Prepare for the Expedition!

Set your time travel devices for 1500s France, and join me in the quaint village of Petit Lyon for a day of frolic and fun!

It's time for the annual Steampunk Expedition to the Renaissance Festival!

If someone needs a discount ticket, let me know ASAP.

We are time travelers, so feel free to "dress like the locals", or to wear your best Steampunk Finery, or an impossibly long scarf. I hear that the pirate quarter has gotten bigger, so perhaps some Airship Pirates might like to come out, as well?

We shall converge this Saturday at the festival. I plan to be there by 11am, and I intend to walk the parade for the benefit of Bast's Garden. After the Parade I propose a meet-up at the Bast's Garden booth.

Annual Time Traveler's Excursion

I propose a Time Traveler's Excursion to Petit Lyon on Saturday, June 2nd at the Greater St. Louis Renaissance Festival. Discount tickets are available and if you need comp tickets, contact me discreetly. I may have some for you.

Who is with me?

I shall be marching in the parade to represent Bast's Garden, so I will likely try to be at the Faire by no later than 11am.

I propose meeting up after the parade at Bast's Garden, as it is in the middle of the Faire.
Time travelers, Steampunk Safari folk, Airship crews, and Mad Scientists: Be there!

Feeler for event

I'm considering hosting a large-scale tea party with an Eastern Steam theme later this summer. I have discovered an excellent venue for this event, which would allow me to charge a mere $10 for tea which would include a meal, entertainment from the Clockwork Geishas, and perhaps a contest of some kind.

Would the St. Louis Stleampunks enjoy such an event? Are there particular dates that would be conflict-heavy?
Loads of Steampunk Track stuff has been announced over on Kawa Kon's website.  There will be panels on Steampunk Cinema, steam and other sorts of "punk", The Wild Wild West, tea, and prop-making as well as a drawing session (which I believe is in need of models... reply, and I'll put you in contact with Steve Swope).

Friday night of the convention, the Streampunk Track is presenting a concert by The Aeronauts (who are just glorious) with a steampunk fashion show.  The fashion show will take any sort of steam, clock, diesel, or atom punk if you show up 15-20 minutes early to fill out a model form (with info for the emcee to read).  The concert and fashion show start at 8:00 p.m.

Kawa Kon is March 16-18 at the Sheraton Westport Chalet.  It's a lovely hotel with lots of places for good photoshoots.  The Steampunk Track, run by Angela Grewe and Mikhail Lynn, will include the panels mentioned above, a concert and jam session by the Aeronauts, the fashion show, and an ice cream social on Saturday morning complete with Victorian parlor games.

Of course, there's more than just steampunk.  The con has a focus on Japanese culture, including anime and video games.  There are also tracks for dolls, Harry Potter, art and writing, and the apocalypse.

Civil War Submarine!

I saw this article when I got up this morning.

Complete Civil War Submarine Unveiled For the First Time

Of course, my first instinct was to say, "How steampunk is THAT?!?" Some might call it clock-punk, though. In either case I wanted to share.

Steampunk Caroling

Ok, I wanted to go over the Steampunk Caroling plans one more time:

This Wednesday, December 14th, we are gathering at the Mint Cookie for an informal rehearsal. I will have song sheets and we will have a piano to sing along with if we desire. I may get the drums down in case anyone wants to try some simple percussion. (For directions, please contact kukla_tko42 privately.)

Gather at 7pm or so. I'll throw a roast in the oven so we can have a nice meal after we've sung.

Official Date for Caroling is Friday, December 16th.
I have secured permission to leave work early, so I'm suggesting meeting at Cicero's around 6pm. I believe that some steampunks and I will be going there for dinner. We will warm up then begin our adventure around 6:30.

Steampunk Caroling

Ok, so now it seems evenly divided, so here's my solution:

Friday, December 16th is the official date of the Steampunk Caroling Expedition.
Friday, December 23rd is our ALTERNATE date, in case of bad weather. Depending upon interest, I may be up for actually caroling on both dates. After all, I've always promoted "AND" rather than "OR"...

I work until 6pm, so let's gather at Cicero's at 7pm. We can warm up and begin our adventure there, then head along the Loop. Please arrive having already eaten, if possible. (Or get to Cicero's early for dinner!) I'm going to try to get out there this week and warn the businesses of what we're planning.

We will sing songs of the holiday season. If you have particular favorites, please email me the name of the song so I can put it on the song sheets. I will also bring the Steampunk Carols written two years ago, because those were fun to sing, too! I do not wish to collect money for charity or anything, just sing to entertain and bring cheer.

This Wednesday, come to the Mint Cookie for a singing rehearsal! Any time after 7pm is fine. We will be doing a belly-dance warm-up exercise first, then singing.

Fa la la la laaaaa

What night should we choose for our annual Steampunk Caroling Expedition?

The two nights in question are Friday, December 16th and Friday, December 23rd.

The location shall be the Delmar Loop. We have a poll up on the Yahoogroup, but I thought I would also ask here if anyone has a specific date they would prefer. Speak up!

Music in the Air

It is time to discuss the date for Steampunk Caroling this year!

Unfortunately, we were unable to carol last year due to my being ill. This year, I wish to nominate a second leader so that if I am unable to lead we will have a back-up plan.

Here are some points of interest about working out the date and time:
I prefer to carol after dark. Daytime caroling doesn't feel as festive. I can be persuaded to carol during the day if enough people prefer it.
I prefer to carol as close to Christmas as I can manage.
We have caroled on Sunday night which worked out well, however I do work on Sundays until 5pm, and have a standing engagement thereafter.
I'm not usually interested in caroling on a week night, but I'm open to it.

Here are some potential dates:
Sunday evening, December 11th.
Friday evening, December 16th.
Sunday evening, December 18th.
Friday, December 23rd.

What is the availability of potential carolers?
Should we aim for a friday?
Should we try to carol on a Thursday night or other week night?

Pirate Festival Expedition

Just a reminder that there is a Steampunk Expedition to the St. Louis Pirate Festival this weekend on Saturday, September 24th!

Here are the details:
Calling all Airship Pirates and affiliates!
We are mounting an expedition to the local Pirate Festival in Rotary Park, Wentzville this Saturday!

We shall gather at the Culver's in Wentzville at 10am for snacking before we head over to the festival.

I encourage everyone to wear their Airship Pirate finery, or any steampunk attire. Remember, too, that steampunks often travel through time, so period clothing (of any period) is perfectly acceptable, too. (Including early 21st century garments.)

If you need a discount ticket or pass, let me know privately. I have a few to offer. Kids are welcome, as usual.
